Here is what I think we can work with. I honestly believe the basics are absolutely perfect for what we’ll be doing as if we lockdown I’ll be programming directly towards minimal equipment. My advice would be to only get the basics unless you are planning on doing home workouts in the future. You can always add more stuff if you feel you need to.
Here are the basics
Plastic Pipe or Broomhandle (available at screwfix!)
This will enable you to do all barbell work. Especially the skill work. We can get great workouts without weight.
Cost: £0-3
Pull Up Bands
1 or 2 bands. If you buy from Amazon a black and purple or a purple and green depending on your shoulder strength. If you just get one then get the lighter one and grip it shorter when you need more resistance.
Cost: £10-24 (We have a limited number of these we can lend out.)
Solid Chair, Box, Bench or Step
For elevating feet or stepping onto.
Cost: £0
Dumbbells or Kettlebell
If you just get one choose a weight you can do a shoulder to overhead with for a metcon. If you get 2 then get a heavier one if you get 3 then 1 heavier, 1 lighter.
Cost: £10-45 per dumbbell. (We will be lending out single DB or KBs to members who need them)
Total cost: £10-£27
Bonus Extras (Definitely Not Required)
Skipping Rope
If you have space to skip then these are a good option. Otherwise penguin claps give the same response without as much complexity.
Cost: £15-60
Dumbbells or Kettlebell
If you just get one choose a weight you can do a shoulder to overhead with for a metcon. If you get 2 then get a heavier one if you get 3 then 1 heavier, 1 lighter.
Cost: £10-45 per dumbbell
At Home Replacement – Fill a water bottle with sand.
Barbell
Definitely not top of the list as you’ll need weight and collars to go with. If space is limited go for a 5ft or 6ft bar. Olympic bars are only for those with lots of space.
Cost: £50-1000!
At Home Replacement – Pipe or broomhandle
Barbell and Dumbbell Set
You can actually buy a cheap set of adjustable screw on barbell and dumbells for around £50-60 from Mirafit. They will do the job. Just be aware you’ll need to keep tightening collars if doing explosive movements.
Pull Up Bars
Great for strict pull ups, toes to bar/leg raise and you can also potentially hang rings from them too. NO KIPPING and stay under control!
Cost £20-60
Benchs, Racks Etc.
All amazing if you plan on getting workouts done at home in the future. But not required.
Equipment Providers
You can get your stuff from a variety of place but here are my top three choices:
Best on a budget: Mirafit
Best Mid-Range - Wolverson Fitness
Best Premium - Rogue Europe
